PROTOTYPE UPDATE & ADVENTURES
almost 2 years ago – Sun, Jun 19, 2022 at 09:54:18 PM

HEY EVERYONE!

Got some fantastic news to share.

ADVENTURES

As promised, the three adventures for Affinity…

…have been finished. They will be released next Monday, June 20th.

As always, it will take a while for all the coupons to go out, so please be patient and check your spam folders if you don’t receive them within 48 hours.

As I previously mentioned, there won’t be a differentiation between the monochrome and color backers. Everything will receive the same files.

Unlike the three core books, which were intentionally written to have the exact page count, that was impossible with these adventures. Torus is the shortest, Conestoga is the longest, which Paradise sitting in between. As such, their retail prices are not the same either.

UPDATES AND REVIEWS

The core Affinity books have been out for a couple weeks now, and while we did send out a big push update not long ago, I decided that Conestoga needed a few more tweaks, specifically fixing an issue with the Maker class talent trees and tweaking the subclasses to be more thematically consistent. That update should be going out next week as well.

I also want to invite those that have downloaded the files that if you enjoy them, please pass the word on. I love reading positive reviews and would be interested in reading people’s thoughts on the series.

PRINT PRODUCTION

Oh, this is a sweet one. I am currently loving my new printer. They are communicative and punctual. They promised to have the prototype files finished on Friday, and they delivered. I don’t have them in my hands yet, but I couldn’t wait to share the videos and photos sent to me…

These are the leather editions, obviously. I am really liking the final run. Once I have these in my hands, I’ll do a more thorough video.

THE NEXT STEP

I’m still on course to finish the digital novel by next week. So, expect another update on that front…

Have a great week, and I’ll talk to you all later!

Revision 1.1, Adventures, & Print Books
almost 2 years ago – Sun, Jun 05, 2022 at 12:28:14 AM

Hey everyone

After some feedback and another pass of the final books, I’ve decided to update the Affinity PDS, officially dubbed version 1.1.

There are far too many changes to go over them all but here are the highlights.

  • I altered page layout to properly reflect the print edition, which means a miniscule change in the page size and bleed. As a result, the layout will appear slightly different but only to those who compare the old files to the new ones. Page counts, and chapter locations haven’t changed.
  • Slight tweaks to all three magic systems, mostly just for game balance and clarification.
  • Removed mentions of free actions: an old habit I am trying to break as 5E is probably the only edition that avoids the term.
  • Dozens of minor layout fixes.
  • Finalized front and back covers have been added.

For those with color editions, check your digital downloads on DriveThruRPG if you have not already received an email. For those with monochrome only editions, you should receive an email from Backerkit. If not, check your digital downloads on that page.

LIKE ALWAYS…if you are unable to access the files or have any issues, please contact me.

I know a few supporters are still having issues with more than one posting publicly that they have not received any rewards. I can only help if you let me. PM me here, on Facebook, or even Discord. I’ll need your name to check your account, and fixing the issue is usually only five minutes away. Waiting for something to happen after three weeks will only serve to frustrate you. You all deserve these rewards, and I am here to make sure that happens.

ADVENTURES
I already have adventures for Paradise and Conestoga finished with Torus following behind. As before, my plan is to release these on the same day. My guess, between June 13thand 15th. After that, the push will be to finish the novel before the end of the month.

I noticed I may not have actually explained who gets these adventures, but I think it’s safe to say that everyone that backed a book, whether digital or physical, will receive matching adventures. Meaning if you only backed Torus, you’ll only receive the Torus adventure. There won’t be a separate monochrome release for these adventures: everyone will receive the same files.

While there won’t be much more in the form of artwork, Paradise did facilitate new illustrations, namely the unique monsters present in the adventure…

And if these appear inspired by a certain video game that I already borrowed from, you’d be correct.

ADVENTURE SESSIONS

We are still doing them. They hit hurdles, namely the fact that every member of my group got COVID at some point (except me…which means I probably did get it and was unaware).

Until Later!

GM SCREEN & FEEDBACK
almost 2 years ago – Wed, May 25, 2022 at 11:03:18 PM

HEY EVERYONE

DM/GM SCREEN

A few of you might have received a notice for a free download from DriveThruRPG.

I decided to finally release the Ultramodern5 (REDUX) DM/GM screen digitally.

This four-panel DM/GM screen contains Ultramodern5 specific information and generic random name tables including…

  • Adversary traits that can be applied to any basic monster
  • Mecha combat rules
  • Ultramax defense modifiers and wound damage
  • Starship combat rules

The outside layer displays a massive illustration by renowned illustrator Nick Greenwood.

This purchase includes the following.

  • Nick Greenwood’s Ultramodern Illustration as a single image JPG, a single image PDF, and separated into four A4-sized JPGs.
  • Ultramodern5 Inner Screen as a single image JPG, a single image PDF, and separated into four A4-sized PDFs.

Those that already purchased the physical GM screen through 2019’s Ultramodern5’s Kickstarter OR 2021’s Affinity’s Kickstarter will be receiving this download for free.

Those that have not previously purchased the physical DM/GM screen as part of either previous Kickstarter can acquire the digital screen through this link…

FEEDBACK

I am always open to feedback, especially given most 3rd party publishers are limited in their capacity to playtest their rules. As a result, I generally wait to receive any feedback before instigating the POD and print media process.

By this time, everyone that backed Affinity should be able to download their files, either from Backerkit (if monochrome) or from DriveThruRPG. If you still have not received an email, private message me so I can investigate. So far, the few people that have reached out were able to find the files by checking their spam folder or correcting their preferred email.

I already received some feedback, but they’re fairly minor. By the end of this week, I will be making another pass (probably the fiftieth by this point) to fix any final issues. At that point, the PDF’s will be updated and the print files will be sent.

One odd point to mention is that the print edition may have some microscopic changes based on the revised bleed values I received from China. Unless scrutinizing each and every page, no one will notice a difference.

ADVENTURES

After not one, not two, but THREE people in my game group came down from COVID (how I’ve avoided it so far is a miracle), we are finally back to gaming, we finished our playthrough of the Paradise module, The Plague of Phylax and should be concluding Conestoga’s The Conquest of Arcadia this week. I should be on schedule to release all three modules by mid June.

That’s it for me this update: the next one should coincide with the release of the first adventure.

DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION
almost 2 years ago – Fri, May 13, 2022 at 04:06:39 AM

Hopefully, the vast majority of you have already received your email to download your digital rewards. If not, be sure to check your spam folder and give it a day or two.

For some of you, this is the end of our journey. For the rest, there is still A LOT more to go.

Next up will be the release of the three adventures, followed by the novel and audiobook later this summer.

PRINT

I often leave digital files up for a few weeks before sending final files to China to help iron out any initial issues that pop up. Meanwhile, as part of this Kickstarter involves a reprinting of Ultramodern5, we’ve already got images and videos of that reprint. So far, this is looking good.

We’ve also got confirmation that our leather wraps have arrived.

I know, not much to talk about. I will be doing a stream soon where I walk through the books as I did the last one but with Northern FanCon this weekend, this will likely be in a week.

OH AND ABOUT THAT

I will be at my local convention, Northern FanCon. If in the region, be sure to come by and say HI!
